Goodbye Packster 60 and 80... Hello, Packster 70!

Riese & Müller has done it.

After several years on the market, the German manufacturer of high-end electric bicycles has improved - and not a little - one of the most avant-garde and best-performing cargo bikes on the market: the Packster.

Of its three versions (Packster 40, 60 and 80), R&M has kept the compact Packster 40 and has merged the 60 and the 80 to create the perfect mix between both: a superbike with the tremendous capacity of the 80 version but with the dimensions somewhat more compact than the Packster 60 .

Hence the Packster 70, with incredible load capacity and front suspension, combined with super-chunky Schwalbe Super Moto X tires that provide an unusually comfortable experience for a heavy cargo bike.

But the improvements don't stop there.

The new Packster 70 replaces the traditional rod steering (a metal rod that transmits direction from the handlebars to the front fork) with a cable system . Cable steering is lighter and provides an incredibly tight turning radius, lacking the limitations of a steering wand.

The front cargo box also evolves. In this case, a one-piece box, made of expanded polypropylene, has a very large cargo volume and space for two children. The passenger compartment is protected by side impact protection bars to prevent deformation of the box in the event of a collision.

To expand the useful volume and convert the open box for professional transport and logistics use, R&M provides a top with built-in lid, which almost doubles that useful volume and protects the load from prying eyes and foreign hands.

But we don't stop there either.

In case the original 500Wh falls short, the new Packster provides the possibility of carrying two batteries of up to 625Wh each , which are completely hidden in the frame. In this way, the base autonomy is increased, from approximately 70 km, to one of up to approximately 200 km.

The Packster 70 also features the first brakes designed specifically for cargo bikes . Current cargobikes, thanks to their construction and the available motors, are capable of carrying more weight, and it is essential that the brakes can withstand these loads safely in any circumstance. Therefore, with its experience and knowledge, R&M has been involved in the development of these brakes, the TRP C2.3 .

And taking into account the weight characteristics that a bicycle of these characteristics usually carries, R&M has redesigned the stand to make it incredibly easy and smooth to park and start the bike, with minimal effort. The stand is designed in such a way that it does part of the work of lifting the bike to park it.

At 3ike we will have a demo unit as soon as it is available. Are you going to miss it?
